It is commonly understood that the archival policy of an institution, such as a public university, should be in harmony with the institution's broader information policies, which, in turn, are aligned with national information policy. However, these policies are often not formally articulated, instead being implicitly inferred through the establishment of institutions, laws, systems, or services that embody general information guidelines to varying degrees of explicitness. This article aims to elucidate the construction process and challenges associated with formulating, developing, and implementing the archival policy at the University of Brasília (UnB). The methodology employed involves a comprehensive review of relevant records and literature, complemented by insights from authors directly or indirectly engaged in the extensive process culminating in the final record.
